After yesterday’s pretty full-on session at Point Clear, it looked like
another breezy day so I agreed to meet Robert at Levington Marina at 10.30.
I arrived first and stopped to take some pics of the large Harwich lifeboat
out of the wate in a sling having its bottom jet washed. Only this morning
Mag joined me as a member of the RLNI after they came to help me out the
other week, they do an amazing job 7 days a week 24 hours a day and we are
very pleased to support them:) Parking up there is a bit of a breeze
blowing from the SSW but it is raining, Robert then arrives as we wait for
the rain to pass. It soon clears and with plenty of water and the sun now
out we set up out foil boards with Ian now arrived with Andy coming later
to wing. There looked enough wind for my 6.5, in fact we all rigged the
same size sail which was a bit of a worry as the other two sailors are much
lighter than me! I was first away and slowly beat out to the middle of the
river but the wind was now pretty light. I then spent the best part of
three hours playing hunt the gust, when it was up you could get some nice
runs, fast at times in the flat water but sadly the gusts were often short
lived and I tried gybing in the gusts. I headed down river towards
Felixstowe but with the runs short and the wind patchy but it was lovely
being out in the sunshine:) The lifeboat then passed heading back to
Harwich so I stopped to take a few pics, then the highlight of the day when
30/40 curlews flew overhead:) With the wind dropping even more it was time
to head back especially as the tide had turned. Mag had arrived, she had
already had her lunch and was reading. She had brought me a yummy roll I
had before packing up and using Mags bike to go to the showers, the best
bit a bit sailing at Levington! I hoped to have a day off tomorrow but it
is looking breezy so might have to go again tomorrow!
